About the Annual Founders Toast

A brief bit of history - Kae Sumner Einfeldt (1916 - 1996) was a 6' 2" painter working for Walt Disney Studios.  She founded  the California Tip Toppers Club in May of 1938.  This was the first North American tall club.  In 1947 representatives of fifteen tall clubs attended the first Tall Club Convention  in California.  The American Affiliation of Tall Clubs was created at that meeting.  In 1966 the organization changed its name to Tall Clubs International (TCI).  Today TCI has some 63 affiliated clubs located throughout the United States and Canada.  There are also many tall clubs throughout the world and each year there is a European Convention as well as the North American Convention.

Each year, on the first Sunday in May, there is a "coast to coast toast" in memory of our founder.  The goal is to get all Tall Clubs toasting at the same time, whatever time zone they happen to be in.  We here at the Tall Club of Rochester organize and host a gathering in Buffalo and Niagara Falls.  Our primary attendees are from Rochester, Toronto, Cleveland, and Detroit.  However, the event is open to anyone in the Tall Club system.

We generally meet at the famous Anchor Bar in Buffalo.  This is the home of the original Buffalo Chicken Wings and they are really good.  Since we have many out of town Tall Friends driving in, we'll gather between noon and 1:30 at the bar.  We'll get a table and feast on the local favorite cuisine.  Then it's off to Niagara Falls, Canada to the Comfort Inn (formerly the Horseshoe Falls Motor Inn)  check in, and do the tourist thing or go to one of the Casinos.  Sunday we'll do breakfast then raise a glass of bubbly in Kae's memory at the Falls.  Then it's on your own.....see the sites or head for home...a great reason to take a drive on what is historically a lovely two days weather wise.

Below are some photos of past "Toasts" including the small International group from May 5-6, 2007.  Unfortunately, the Cleveland girls couldn't make it this year...and Detroit was also missing.
