International Convention
What is the TCI Convention ?
Every year there is a full week of Tall Club International (TCI) Convention. For those who travel a long way to get to Convention there are add on activities prior to the start of Convention. We call that "Pre-Con". The location varies & usually moves each year to a different regional location so that all local Tall Clubs have the opportunity to have Convention "close to home".
As with any Convention, there is a nice balance between partying, site-seeing, and conducting of business. Since this is one of the only times during the year when all Tall Clubs are represented in one spot, the delegates meeting consumes most of one full day and deals with the necessary administrative details. These include amendments to the by-laws, election of the executive board officers, voting on the next Convention location, and any other new business for the good of the cause.
The annual Convention also hosts the Miss TI Pageant. Miss Tall International will travel around the country attending many local Tall Club sponsored events. The goal of Miss TI is to promote tall awareness through various media such as television and radio interviews, meeting with local civil and political officials, or participating in selected appropriate public forums such as special events in malls, grand openings, or charitable organizations.
The Saturday night semi-formal dinner dance ends the Convention. Recognition is given where due. All awards and sports' winner trophies are presented. The Scholarship Selection Committee announces the TCI Scholarship winners from the pool of finalists submitted by each local Tall Club. The annual contribution to National Marfans Foundation, our charity of choice, is also announced. Sunday brings the final breakfast gathering, good-byes, cars, planes and trains for home with thoughts of the next year's convention.
The 2010 TCI Convention is in New Orleans, Louisiana starting Thursday, June 24th through Wednesday, June 30th, "Pre-Con" will be also be in New Orleans starting Monday, June 21st through Thursday, June 24th. "Pre-Con" this year will focus on a New Orleans Habitat for Humanity project. Please refer to the Convention page on the TCI web site convention page for more details.
